Nakusp and Area Development board would like to announce the hiring of Hailey Bekker, as an Agriculture and food coordinator. This is following the request For proposal that NADB put out in January 2026, for an “agriculture Alliance Coordinator”. The main goals of the program for 2026 are
- Form a local food alliance, that meets regularly (Grow Arrow Lakes Alliance)
- Facilitate events throughout the year that support local food culture
- Support agriculture / food businesses in the area as they expand
- Encourage community food resilience initiatives
- Track funding initiatives to support long term initiatives
This role will support collaboration, strengthen the local agri-food sector, and help build long-term economic resilience in the Arrow Lakes region.
“Hailey Bekker is excited to step into the role of Agriculture & Food Coordinator under NADB. The passion Hailey has for healthy, locally grown food stems from her early experiences in school. There she was introduced to horticulture, and the transforming opportunities that come from getting hands in dirt. Early in her career she was able to establish a fully Certified Organic mixed production farm in the Kootenay Boundary. Alongside the farm Hailey worked crisis and human service roles with Women Shelters. As her future and family grew,Nakusp became home in 2023. The community has been an encouraging place to start her next farming project, Peas and Love, as well as opening opportunities to further social development work. Hailey brings her business experience and non-profit history to this coordination role. She hopes to see the potential of Nakusp’s local food culture blossom, and to share many freshly picked snacks with the community along the way. “
