The Upper Arrow Housing Society (UAHS) was incorporated in March of 2024 in response to an overwhelming demand from the community to address our local housing shortage, with a focus on developing solutions to missing workforce housing in Nakusp and the Upper Arrow Lake Valley.
NADB has agreed to partner with the UAHS for its first year to provide administrative resources as well as financial support for start-up costs. The newly formed UAHS board has developed its initial terms of reference, bylaws, and policies, etc.
Mandate: Work with community stakeholders to facilitate and deliver solutions to address the acute housing shortage for working individuals and families in the Nakusp and Upper Arrow Lakes region.
Vision: That Nakusp and surrounding communities have a supply of appropriate housing sufficient to meet the needs of the working public. That local businesses are able to maintain and grow their companies without restrictions imposed by the lack of available housing for prospective employees.
The board has also identified short- and long-term goals for the organization, including facilitating matching tenants with potential landlords to open up more rental inventory as well as working with the Province, local government, and other stakeholders to begin the not insignificant process of developing purpose-built, multi-family dwellings.
This is a community-led effort, so if you or people you know would like to contribute to the discussion in some way, provide feedback, or otherwise engage with this initiative, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our contact information is below.
